probably one of the overlooked songs on intimacy (remixed), but perhaps in my study-high, i very much appreciated the recently, old-skool, and forgotten trance upswing that used to be utilized by the likes of pvd, oakenfold, tiesto, and ferry back in the day.

everything’s gotten a little more poppy nowadays, which deters me from hitting up a spin set by any of those guys (unless its ferry at cielo — anyone else there on june 10, 2007?)… but this brings back the reminiscent memories of when pvd was still climbing to the top, and making people move with creative remixed sets in select venues in nyc.

hearing phoenix on that cadillac commercial and at the end of entourage, i can see that they are hitting the mainstream pretty hard. good for them, bad for us — per usual. but as much as i would cringe to hear them on z100 in nyc, that doesnt mean i’d stop listening.

so yeah, i was thinking about this lately, when i turned on my crackberry’s pandora and had ‘lasso’ come on this AM. i hadn’t been listening to phoenix for a while, especially considering that my ipod connector in my car had died and i’m back to the stone age with burnt CDs, and since this song came on this AM, i remembered again all the good memories associated.

total going out FAIL last night. roads closed to soho, so spent 30 min trying to find decent parking. walked 5 blocks in the wrong direction (place was 1 block away) in the rain, walked back, waited on a line to see a friend spin, and then got immediately shit on by the girl working the door who said ‘you’re not on the list’. i showed her the email that said ‘see you there!’ confirmation from butter but to no avail.

had no idea that shit like that still existed but i guess i was meant to be a surgeon, not a socialite. razzle had just finished up his pediatrics rotation, i had been on call the day before working 36 hours straight and just wanted a decent night out to listen to some good music and failed miserably. to make matter worse, the holland was on the verge of closing, but of course, they had a DUI checkpoint setup as well (we hadn’t been drinking), where the cop thrust his face into mine and took a deep wiff. (i apologized for any garlicky tinge from dinner). pouring rain, going out fail, and DUI stop. wow.

i always think too, as a doctor, you can never turn away someone sick — sick, healthy, poor, rich, tall, short, fat, skinny, incarcerated, free, ugly or beautiful, you need to treat everyone the same, without judgment to provide the best care possible.

i guess it sucked that much more last night because we spend so much of our time taking care of sick people, regardless of background, that it sucks to see that the rest of the world just isnt the same.

so, yeah, i need to listen to a little biggie.
